Career Portfolio
The Career Portfolio is a document designed to help students make a smooth transition to the next step beyond high school. It is an excellent tool for students to take to employment or college interviews. It represents more than a summary of a student's abilities on a piece of paper. The experience of developing Career Portfolio prepares students for the realities of the work world, and helps them take ownership of the career development process and of educational choice.
Documents created by the student in 11th and 12th grades are placed in a burgundy vinyl folder with clear plastic inserts, which provides a very professional appearance. Possible portfolio components include the following:
- a letter of verification from the school
- resume and references developed by the student
- a narrative written by the student, identifying career goals and rationale for these choices
- an essay identifying specific employability skills
- a transcript (including school attendance)
- copies of diplomas, certificates, licenses, and other pertinent credentials
- samples of students' work that best represents their skills
