Below are a number of excellent websites available to parents and students to help plan and prepare for college/career.
 
www.ed.gov/thinkcollege  Think College, created by the US Department of Education, has three subsections reated for various age levels.  Think College Early offers college information to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and their teachers and parents.  High School and Beyond is targeted to high school and college students and has links to financial aid information, FAQs (and answers) on college basics, career information, and distance leaerning and college search sites.
 
www.mapping-your-future.org  Sponsored by a group of agencies that participate in the Federal Family Education Loan Program, Mapping Your future offers specialized college and career information for middle school, undergraduate, graduate, and adult students; parents; middle school and high school counselors; and financial aid professionals.  The site is divided into three informative sections:  Selecting a School, Paying for School, and Planning a Career.
 
www.embark.com  Embark is a one-stop college and career site that offers a wide variety of features for high shcool and college students.  Its main page is divided into the following five sections:  Undergraduate Schools, Law & Graduate Schools, International Students, Business Schools, and Career & Technical Schools.  Students can search for colleges by type, location, cost, major, admissions standards, and other categories.  They can also hear firsthand by reading the college diaries of 12 current college students.  The Prepare section offers information on the ACT, SAT, and college majors.  The Apply section offers useful information and resources on admissions - including tips on writing the application essay and interviewing.  The Finance section provides inforamtion on financial aid, scholarships, and student loans.  At the Get Ready section, soon-to-be college freshmen can get sensible advice on everyday issues such a swhat to bring to college, what type of computer to purchase, how to buy textbooks, and time management.
 
www.collegenet.com  This site allows students to search for two-year, four-year, vocational, upper-level undergraduate, medical, nursing, and professional programs in the US.  Students can apply to over 1,500 of these colleges and universities without leaving the site.  CollegeNet also offers links to financial aid information, a searchable scholarship database, and links to college resources for both teachers and students.
