Career Development
Elementary Career Program
Elementary Career Specialists provide activities promoting career awareness to students in elementary grades. The role of the career specialist is multifaceted; no two specialists do the exact same thing. In fact, the duties of a career specialist are determined by the needs of the school(s) he/she serves. In general, the mission of the career specialists is to incorporate career development into the schools to ensure that all students are prepared for the workplace of the 21st century.
Career specialists are curriculum consultants available to provide career activities, material resources, and individual student and group assistance. Career specialists help tie classroom lessons that students are studying to a "real world" career application, answering the question: "Who would ever need to know this?"
Elementary Career Specialists:
- Assist teachers with career activities and lessons in the classroom.
- Provide expertise to member districts concerning available information, software and career resources from the Career Development Resource Library that relate to the Ohio Academic Standards.
- Coordinate activities specific to the member districts, such as vehicle days, career fairs, guest speakers, field trips, walking tours, career dress up, and literature packets.
- Create career-related bulletin boards in schools.
