Career Development
FAQs

What is the purpose of the Career Development Department?
Our purpose is to prepare all district students, Kindergarten through adult, to make the best possible informed career choices and position them for future career success by providing impactful age-appropriate resources and relevant experiences. Our goal is to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to become their own lifelong career counselor.

Who can use Career Development’s services and resources?
Anyone from our eight associate districts: Students at all levels, parents, adults, teachers, counselors, administrators and all residents.

What eight districts do you serve?
Brecksville/Broadview Heights, Cuyahoga Heights, Garfield Heights, Independence, Nordonia Hills, North Royalton, Revere, and Twinsburg

What types of resources and services are available?
We provide a full range of educational programs and services for students and adults. Students in the school districts we support are provided the opportunity to hear career speakers, take field trips as well as participate in a variety of career-related activities. Teachers are able to borrow any of the 4,500 educational resources, including 2,500 books primarily aimed at K-12 students, from our Resource Library. Parents and Community members are invited to attend, free, informational seminars and workshops such as: College & Career Planning, etc, at CVCC.

What does your program look like?
We have a team of Career Specialists that provide services for the 26,000 students in our eight districts. These services are based on a specific progression for the age ranges of the groups that we are working with. For students we emphasize the following aspects of career development:
For adults we focus more on career management and career transitions but we also can address any of the three areas above as well.

I've heard you offer summer camps, how do I find out more information?
We offer career-related summer camps during the last two weeks of June for district students currently in 7th, 8th, and 9th grades.  Registration begins in Feburary.  Class size is limited and is filled on a first come, first served basis.  Our website will have specific camp information beginning in January.

Can you tell me more about how you might be able to help me?
We help you identify what you’re interested in, what you’re good at; how your skills, talents, and interests translate into work; what skills you need to achieve or upgrade and where to find that work. We also want to help you plan and carry out your own career changes. Being flexible and open minded is critical for success.  We want to put you into a position to answer questions such as: “Who am I?”, "What are my main interests?”, “What are my special gifts?”, “What do I want to do with my life? “ and “How do I get there?”
